This course will provide an overview of the history of the Service-members’ Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and an individual’s eligibility. This course will also discuss lease and insurance products, as identified in the Act. After completing this program, the learner will understand how to:
- Determine an individual’s eligibility for the benefits under the Act.
- Identify which lease and insurance products are affected by the Act.
- Analyze court actions which may be stayed, postponed, or suspended.
Course Topics
T1. History and Eligibility: This topic will familiarize the learner with the Service-members Civil Relief Act, which was enacted to suspend certain financial and legal obligations of individuals entering active military duty.
T2. Lease Products: This topic will explain property lease agreements, motor vehicle lease agreements, repossession, and liquidation in the context of military and other service members and their dependents.
T3. Insurance Products: This topic will explain how the SCRA provides a way for individuals entering the military to be assured that they will continue to be protected by commercial life insurance while they are on active duty.
T4. Court Actions: This topic will familiarize the learner with the allowance that court action or proceedings may be stayed, postponed, or suspended during and up to 90 days after the time that the individual is in active military service.
T5. Military Lending Act: This topic will inform the reader about the Military Lending Act, which aims to protect military service members and their families from unfair or predatory lending practices.
