This course will introduce the learner to model building, including the essential components of a financial model and the components of the model layout. The course will also provide the learner with suggestions on how to create a good spreadsheet that is functional and simple to read using the best tools available. After completing this program the learner will understand:
- Common mistakes and errors that can occur in financial models.
- Steps financial managers can take to ensure mistakes do not happen.
- How models can be tied to the institution’s mission and values and used as a guide to better its future.
Course Topics
T1. Modeling Discipline: This topic will provide the learner with an overview of model building, including the essential components of a financial model and the components of the model layout, so s/he is prepared to apply it to his/her role at the institution.
T2. Model Aesthetics: This topic will offer the learner suggestions on how to create a good spreadsheet that is functional and simple to read.
T3. Common Errors: This topic will teach the learner about the common mistakes and errors that can occur in financial models, as well as steps financial managers can take to ensure that mistakes do not happen.
T4. Future Use: This topic will teach the learner about how models can be tied to the institution's mission and values and used as a guide to better its future.
